MORE GYRO TATTS!

Another Gyro Cat tattoo from Frog Delacroix in Perth. Just Awesome.
I'd been looking for ideas for Gyro ink for a while but had been stuck trying to come up with something that represented Gyro and all the great times and the good people that I've met at Gyro shows over the years. Problem was, it also had to fit with the pieces I already had. Then Zok posted the first Gyro tattoos post and I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner -- the cat! So my black cat is for all the cool cats in and around Gyroscope.

Thanks Frog, Legendary!

TRACKING STARTS TODAY!!!

Well ladies n gentlemen, after 2 gruelling weeks of pre-production the studio has been completely re-modelled and set up for the onset of trackin- focusing on the drums first...so it looks at the Robby will be under the microscope for the next week or 2!!

We are up to three extra chaps in the studio Gil our producer, Joe our engineers, Richo our assistant engineer and a pro tools genius starts today...more dudes working on this recrord than you can poke a stick at!! All good.

So to kick this week off, here's a few snaps of Raglan Castle in Wales. We had a spare 5 minutes from the studio the other day for sight seeing...amazing ruins dating back to the 1600's...! (p.s. there's always time for a bow and arrow gag in the Gyro camp! haha)

P.s. HUGE english band in the 70's called Mott the Hoople have been sharing the studios here with us as they've been warming up for reunion shows here in the UK...we had some wind up beers with them and their buddy Joe Elliot from Def Leppard (how good)..wishin those lads all the best with their upcommin shows. Not that they need it- those guys have been rockin out since before the Gyro boys we're twinkles in our parents eyes. Haha.

VIEWS FROM INSIDE THE STUDIO!

Hey all! Things are going along famously over here in Monmouth, Wales. After writing over 30 songs over the past year- we've narrowed down the tracks in pre-production over the past 2 weeks to 15 lucky songs. And really 3 or them are gunna get booted off this final list very soon (so not so sure they are 'lucky' tracks just yet?? Huh?) Anyways..our good buddy Will has been hangin' ten with us the last few days and has shot a bunch of shots inside the studio on his 'you bewt' SLR as a fly on the wall...so without furtha-ado...here's whats happening in the world of Gyroscope's Album #4 Recording..in picture format! Massive shout out to our new best friend Gil, special mentions to assitant engineer Richie 'the party animal' and last but not least to Happy Henry (the inflatible fun guy) oh and of course, thanks to Will for the great shots!

P.S. Did i mention we had time to visit Castle Greyskull this mornin??? We have been BUSY!

The Man, The Myth, The Legend. Brad Campbell

Hey Everyone,

So I have finally got around to a bit of GyroBlog action. So we are now into wk 2 of PreProd and the tunes are starting to really take shape. there have been some interesting developments in the kind of album we have decided to make, but I'll tell you more about that another time.

Apart from all the playing, writing and recording there has been lots of fun times here at Rockfield. It really is such a relaxing place. We all very excited when the package below arrived that's for sure!

Apart from hiding in really big boxes. My curley haired friend and rhythm section compadre Brad has done some phenominal bass playing on the tunes for this record. I cant wait for you to hear them. Lots of great bass parts, runs and sections. Well done Brad. You make me feel like a proud parent!

The other super exciting thing has been working with the truley exceptional Gil Norton. To have Gil producing this album is a real dream come true for all of us. He is super nice guy, great to drink a nice glass of vino with (particulaly white) and most importantly a really gifted producer. We are so honoured to have his wisdom and insight helping us craft these tunes. Gil also happens to be a great table tennis player. Here are a few snaps of the great man hard at work! Take care guys and stay tuned to gyroscope.com.au MUCH LOVE - ROB

Baby, I'm Eddie Vedder

Hey guys n gals...another blog installment from the beautiful field of Rock...

Things are going along famously nearing the end of the first week of pre-production...!
It's Friday night at 8:15pm and we're getting into the after dinner session in Studio 2 here, and even tho you guys may think all we do here is neck bottles of wine (well, we do kinda) but we mix that shit in with long hours in the studio goin over and over, and over, these songs til they're exactly how we want them. So far we're sorta decided on about 5 tracks that are definately runnin on the new record and we're feelin very bloody excited about this rock album!

And the funny thing about today is- that with every album we've made there's always a dark horse demo that we've had that we're either not 100% happy with, or that we feel simply doesn't rock as much as the other 30 or so songs that we've written (haha we have written a shit load really) but yeh, a song called Baby, I''m Gettin' Better took on some sort of new life force as we overhauled the track today in the studio with Producer/Mastermind Gil Norton and is feeling like a great rock song indeed. We are happy men.

But for now i gotta get back to work with my bros crafting this 4th album.
Good, good times.
(More wine, waiter please...anyone remember that tune?? haha)

A few snaps.

Animals of Rockfield.

Hangin tough.

This photo cracks me up:)

Wine

We've started a bit of a trend here at the studio.. That trend is to drink wine with our dinner.. Now this is only a problem when you're still sitting at the dinner table 4 hours and many bottles after you sat down..

I think the plan was to start work on another song after dinner last night but we were all having a pretty good time talking shit and getting stuck into that lovely grape drink that we just gave up on it after a while..
Rob kept filling up Gils glass and got him pissed - haha, nice one Robbie!! Then Gil made like one of David Copperfields assistants and disappeared after a while so we attempted to play Fifa on the PS3. It was my birthday yesterday, I had a lovely day, I fell asleep on the couch and Dan wore a tie for the whole day in my honour. Nice guy huh!?!

By the way, we have worked on about 3 songs now, and they are shaping up pretty bloody good..

Day 2.

Just lookin at the clock it's 11:11pm and we just (pretty much) finished up pre-prod on a track called Assassination Attempt- this is the part where we make sure the song and all it's bits pieces make sense...and this track IS makin' good sense, which is a good thing :) Necked a few more bottle of wine along the way, and we're really enjoyin' the studio here at Rockfield! If the walls could talk they'd tell us stories about Joe Strummer and his 'funk dungeon' haha, a great fist-fight between Noel and Liam Gallagher and they may even recall the guys from Queen throwin the frizbee in the yard. Holy Shit hey??

Here's a couple pics...

more soon!

We almost didn't make it to Wales!!!

Our trip to Wales def didn't get off to the world's greatest start:) But after a few hiccups, namely our taxi breakin' down in the wet, gettin' stung by Qantas for a severe excess bill and having flight delays- we got drunk in Singapore, passed out on the way to London, drove to Wales, got drunk again in Monmouth and made some awesome new friends in the lovely people at Rockfield...this is gunna be a great and memorable 8 weeks!
Can't wait to get into pre-production (a fancy word for ironing out our song ideas n demos:) first thing tomm- tho i have a feeling the fun's gunna stop (for a little while) and we're gunna be workin our already skinny arses to the bone!! Bring dat shit on:)

More soon.

EVEN MORE GYRO TATTS...

RAE HARVEY's GYROSCOPE. - MELBOURNE.

MORE GYRO TATTS...

ZOK's GYRO CAT. -PERTH

GYRO TATTS

Hey there guys n gals…welcome to one of the first instalments of blogging and general crappin’ on, @ the new Gyroscope blog site! Exciting uh?? Well im here to talk to you about Gyroscope and our love for rock n’ roll & tattoos. And vice versa.

As we all know, tattoos (or tuff stickers if you will) have long been closely associated with Rock n Roll amongst other things. You might say they go togther like emo music and eyeliner, pointy shoes & vests, or perhaps even Macgyver and a sticky situation.

Tattoos, in Rock n Roll form (ie. A tatt of your favourite band’s logo or something associated with your music of choice) are a way of wearing you heart on your sleeve, or perhaps telling the world that you are the world’s biggest Guns N’ Roses fan without opening your mouth.

This blog came about after meeting a lot of folks on tour and around the way that shared a passion for Gyroscope enough to have something Gyroscope-related tattooed on their bodies. This is one of the greatest forms of flattery known to man, and you guys are more than amazing for sharing the passion we have for this band. What a MASSIVE compliment!! Holy shit.

In fact- Dan and I in the beginnings of Gyroscope shared a similar passion for a couple of our favourite band’s enough to have their logos tattooed on our own bodies way back when. We we’re both broke, and on the dole, and on-and-off tour when we scraped togther enough dough to get inked.

I had a friend of mine in Perth, Ben Frichot design a Shag-inspired Rocket From the Crypt piece for the back of my left arm, and Dan had the Alkline Trio Skull Heart Design (incidentally designed by Tom Gabel from Against Me!’s wife Heather Gabel as Alkaline Trio’s chief merch designer) inked inside his left wrist.

And In fact- the cat from my Rocket from the Crypt Tattoo become the unofficial Gyroscope logo for the band over the next few years, and folks we were meeting we’re having that cat tattooed on their own bodies! Crazy huh??:) very awesome.

As we are getting close to the end of this tattoo blog, we’d like to introduce you all to our fearless and courageous and DEDICATED manager Rae, who on her travels throughout the world decided that she was not only dedicated enough to manage our band (a 25 hour a day, 8 days a week position!!) but she also became the 5th member of Gyro (for life) when having her own piece of Gyroscope tattooed on her arm!

A word from Rae…

I got my Gyroscope tat in New York City. I was there shortly after Breed Obsession went to #1 in March 2008. It was a major event for the band (and me) and I wanted to remember it forever. I like this tat cause it’s definitely a Gyroscope, but it’s not obvious or common either!”

Leg-end much??? Hell yeah.

That about sums up my Tatt blog for this week, more Gyro tattoo stories from more of our friends very soon….by the way, if you have any photos of your own Gyroscope tattoos, feel free to email them thru to us with a short story of what it means to you, and we’ll get you up on dis here site to show off your art! Email us here @ info@gyroscope.com.au

Much love and Respekt,

Zok & Gyro.
